Bio
Adam Johnson is a Grammy-nominated audio engineer and production sound mixer based in Asheville, North Carolina. As owner and head engineer of Sound Lab Studios, Adam works across music, film, television, documentary, branded content, commercial production, broadcast, and streaming media, bringing a full production-to-post perspective to every project.
His career spans classical recording, location sound, broadcast engineering, sound design, dialogue editing, restoration, post-production editorial, and re-recording mixing. Adam has held audio positions with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and the Aspen Music Festival and School, alongside extensive freelance, studio, and production work.
Adam’s credits include contributions to Grammy and Emmy Award-winning projects, along with work associated with Netflix, Apple, Disney, HBO, PBS, Fox, and other major platforms. His background combines deep musical training, technical fluency, and a story-first approach to sound, helping artists, filmmakers, agencies, and production teams move from capture through final delivery with clarity, craft, and intention.
Adam holds a B.S. in Information Technology with advanced study in music production. He is affiliated with IATSE, the Audio Engineering Society, The Recording Academy, and the Society of Broadcast Engineers.
